Approach

At Golden International School, children live a different kind of school life. Because the way they learn is through experiences. They are busy doing things at school; they create, they fix; they ideate, they plan, they execute; they change plans; and in this entire process – learning happens. Simply put, they live it to believe it! And because we believe that every child is born with a new thought of God, we don’t follow the index listed on the first page of their books. In fact, the curriculum is indigenously designed for every classroom as per their interest and level of understanding. And so the lessons they learn are beyond text books. They learn the lessons which prepare them for life. The idea is to introduce them to their inert potential which is infinite, make them believe in what they can do and replace an empty mind with an open one. The objective of this philosophy of education isn’t limiting a child to grades. It is to believe in their abilities and open doors for Great Innovations!

A SCHOOL WITH A DIFFERENCE

NO TEXT BOOKS, NO STANDARDIZED SYLLABUS!

At GIS, there is no single publisher which is relied on. Here, students are encouraged to refer a multitude of authors, thoughts and opinions, so as to provide a comprehensive picture about a given subject. Here, the emphasis is on inculcating a habit of researching on one’s own through a variety of mediums, including nature – the idea being that when students try to get into a depth of a subject by undertaking their own research, it is permanently etched and retained in their memories and the subject is easily comprehended without any stress. Also, a student gets a broader and balanced picture about a subject and is able to form his or her own opinion about it – thus encouraging independent thinking anf freedom of imagination. The syllabus at GIS is also unique, in the sense that is customized as per a student’s level with no two syllabus being the same.

NO TRADITIONAL TEACHING METHODS!

Children at Golden International School believe what they are told only once
they experience it! And therefore learning happens in some of the most creative ways here with new and contemporary methods of teaching.

English and Hindi are no more considered as subjects at GIS. We believe if the
children are able to use the languages to communicate right with confidence,
they have mastered the languages. Theatre, is our technique of helping children with communication skills.

Commercial Mathematics is practised in the Maths Lab while concepts of Speed,
Distance and Time are learnt at the football ground. Baking a cake and sharing
it, helps children learn the concept of fractions.

History is just not about mugging up the dates. It is filtered and shared with
children to help them develop their own perspective, learn virtues of past
heroes and derive their own interpretations.

Civics again, isn’t treated as a subject. It is practised, not taught. Children are
made aware of their responsibilities as citizens of the country. They identify
cases of misconduct and then debate it in their Lawyer’s Lab, the outcome of
which helps lay the foundation of civic sense in them.

The Science of answering real life questions is practised with observation and a
logical attitude throughout the day.
Planning trips, making itineraries helps children understand Geography.
And that is why we say children don’t learn chapters at GIS, they practice skills.

LEARNING SKILLS, NOT SUBJECTS

Children at GIS get to practise real life challenges in school. The idea is to
bridge the gap between classrooms and the real world outside,
to allow them to apply their lessons while they are learning them. This not only
helps them realise the importance of education but also sub-consciously instills in them other qualities and skills which are fundamental to becoming life ready.
Commitment, sense of responsibility, teamwork, acceptance of different point
of views, hard work, curbing personal interests for higher objectives… virtues
which determine our quality of life can’t be taught but lived! Some of the

practices that help in this direction include-

Work Education – Children explore professions like Bakery, Fashion, inematics, Dadi Ma Ke Nuskhe,
Color Therapy, Mudra Therapy, Theater etc. at school.
Adopt a Child – Academically strong children from the senior classes adopt an
academically weak child from the junior classes. Eventually both learn!
Life skills – Cleaning and maintenance of children’s
own classrooms with staff assistance is a practise which is leaving a positive
impact at home too.
As confirmed by the parents!
